Politicians have to communicate what is wrong with their opponents. Those who don’t attack usually lose primaries and become irrelevant. Mitt Romney, for all of his flaws as a candidate, has been quite effective in the primary season in using opposition research to attack and and deflate Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, and Herman Cain.
